Report: David Stern Pushing for Higher NBA Age Limit NBA Commissioner David Stern is hoping to change the age requirement to play in the professional basketball league.

The current rule requires any basketball player hoping to join the league to be at least 19 years of age and be at least one year removed from high school.

The rule has been in place since 2005 and was not adjusted during 2011's labor negotiations as the NBA dealt with a 161-day lockout.

Despite not addressing the issue late last year, Stern and the owners would like to change the rule to add one year to the age limit, according to a report from ESPN.

The NBAPA has been hesitant to jump on board without any concessions from owners, but nevertheless formed a committee to explore the idea.
