London Olympic Organizers Ask For Deceased Drummer Keith Moon to Perform at Ceremony

Note to any future Olympic cities: If you are going to invite someone to perform at your Olympic closing ceremonies, you should probably check to see if he or she is available first.

Or alive.

Organizers of the London Olympics were hoping to have the famous drummer of The Who, Keith Moon, perform during their closing ceremonies when the games wrap up in August.

There's just one problem: Moon has been dead since 1978.

The Who’s manager, Bill Curbishley, broke the bad news to the London Olympic crew, quickly breaking the sad news.

"I emailed back saying Keith now resides in Golders Green crematorium, having lived up to the Who's anthemic line 'I hope I die before I get old,'" Curbishley said. "If they have a round table, some glasses and candles, we might contact him."

Moon was well known for being one of the wildest figures in rock history, famously passing out during a 1973 concert after mixing horse tranquilizers and alcohol before the show. The iconic drummer died at the age of 32 from a overdose on prescription pills.

For the London Olympic crew, it’s an embarrassing, mystifying mistake, especially in an age where someone can simply fire a name into Google, or even Wikipedia.

Hopefully London Olympic organizers don’t have John Bonham of Led Zeppelin pegged as a backup, but its safe to say that they probably won't get fooled again.
