New England Revolution Hire David Vaudreuil as Reserve Team CoachJay Heaps added another piece to his coaching staff on Wednesday, hiring David Vaudreil as an assistant coach.

Vaudreil's primary duty will be to lead the club's reserve team. He is tasked with helping the club's squad and young players reach their potential and progress to the first team.

"David is an excellent coach who's played in MLS and who understands what it takes to win in this league," Heaps said. "He's coached at many different levels and he's someone who I want to lean on to help develop our younger players and especially our reserve team."

Vaudreil is part of a new wave of American soccer coaches who have experience as professional players. He spent seven of his 14 years as a pro in Major League Soccer, playing 151 league games for D.C. United (1996-97), the Miami Fusion (1998), the Colorado Rapids (1998-2000) and the Chicago Fire (2001-02). He was a member of D.C.'s MLS Cup winning teams in 1996 and 1997.

Vaudreil's post-playing days have seen him take on coaching roles with American professional teams such as the Chicago Storm and Atlanta Silverbacks. He was also an administrator and executive with with Santa Clarita United Soccer Club, AC Milan USA Academy, Hollywood United Football Club and Chivas USA.

The Princeton graduate most recently served as the coach of the Connecticut Football Club. His experience with youth and professional players should bode well for the development of those young Revs players, who are at a key point in their careers.

The Revolution reserves will play a 10-game season in 2012. It starts on Monday when they take on the Philadelphia Union in Chester, Pa. The club can also schedule friendlies for its reserves to play against non-MLS opposition.
