Juan Carlos Oviedo has had quite the offseason. The pitcher formerly known as Leo Nunez first had to deal with Uncle Sam's displeasure after running afoul of the U.S. government. Now, he's suffering the wrath of Bud Selig.
MLB has reportedly suspended Oviedo six weeks for falsifying information about his real identity, according to the Miami Herald.
The former Marlins closer was discovered to be using a fake name and placed on MLB's restricted list in September. Because the U.S. government doesn't take too kindly to people entering the country using fake names, he was sent back to the Dominican Republic to re-apply for a visa to return to the states.
Once he returns, however, he won't be suiting up anytime soon. The Marlins moved on with the signing of Heath Bell as their new closer, but would probably still have a spot for Oviedo/Nunez somewhere in the bullpen.
They just might need him to wear a name tag this year.
