Barry Bonds Could Rejoin Giants as Instructor, Says ‘My Expertise Is Baseball’

Barry Bonds is eyeing a return to baseball.

No, not as a player. But as an instructor.

Bonds addressed reporters at San Francisco's AT&T park on Monday, during which he revealed that he's spoken with Giants president and CEO Larry Baer about rejoining the organization in some capacity.

Bonds said that the discussions centered around him becoming a roving instructor of some sort, "helping major leaguers [and] minor leaguers," according to CSNBayArea.com.

"My expertise is baseball," he reportedly said. "If you believe that I can contribute and help the organization, then fine. If you don't, fine. I'm just saying it's out there."

Bonds didn't comment on whether or not he believes he'll get into the Hall of Fame, saying that it's up to the writers and that he doesn't worry about that kind of stuff. The former Giants outfielder obviously understands the skepticism that surrounds him, though.

"I'm a convicted felon of obstruction of justice and that's what I am," said Bonds, who also pointed out that he was never convicted of steroids. "I live with it. It will never go off your mind. You never forget those things. You move on [but] I'll never forget it."

Bonds last played in 2007. In 22 big league seasons — seven with the Pirates and 15 with the Giants — he hit more home runs (762) than any other player in major league history.

I don't know how long I've been in this league, but that has to rank as the worst I've ever had. I would have loved to earn it.
