Bryce Harper‘s major league career is still, by far, in its infancy. However, that’s not stopping many people from projecting incredible things for him, as they’ve done since he was 16 years old.

The Washington Nationals phenom still has a ways to go until he reaches free agency — he won’t be able to be a free agent until 2018 — but that doesn’t mean some aren’t looking ahead, handicapping the market for the outfielder.

Author Rob Miech, who spent a season with Harper when Harper was just 17, is now saying that he’s been told that some are forecasting that Harper could be in line for a fat contract with the Yankees of all teams when he hits the market.

“I am gonna think pinstripes, but that is a completely personal answer,” Miech said, according to the Washington Post. “I hate to disappoint Nats fans, but he was born to wear the pinstripes, and that’s been a goal. That’s nothing new or earth shattering. You know, the Yankees have a way of giving a ton of cash to guys like, and someone told me the other day that they could foresee the first $400 million contract at that time.”

Of course, “someone” isn’t exactly hearing it straight from Harper or someone in the Yankees organization itself, but the thought is kind of interesting.

Harper has said in the past that he’s a Yankees fan, and his favorite player of all time is Mickey Mantle

So there’s that.
