If there’s one thing everyone agrees on about the late Carl Beane, it’s that the longtime Red Sox PA announcer loved life, loved the game of baseball and was one of the most likable guys you’d ever meet.

These characteristics couldn’t have been more evident during a 2011 interview, when he was setting up to announce his first Cape Cod League game in Wareham. Beane had announced Cape Cod League All-Star games before that June evening, but he had never done a regular-season game up to that point.

In the interview, he’s asked how much longer he thinks he will keep doing it, and he responds, “I can do this until I’m on the other side of the grass.”
