The Red Sox outfielders just cannot catch a break.

Cody Ross will be placed on the disabled list after breaking the navicular bone in his foot, according to Bobby Valentine. Ross injured himself fouling a ball off his foot in Friday’s game against Philadelphia, and will likely miss a couple of weeks while it heals.

Preliminary X-rays had suggested that Ross didn’t have any broken bones, but a follow-up exam revealed the true extent of the damage.

This injury is the same one that sidelined Dustin Pedroia back in 2010 for a significant amount of time, but it seems that the severity of Ross’ injury is not as bad as Pedroia’s was.

Ross will be the sixth member of the Red Sox outfield to visit the DL this year, joining Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford and Darnell McDonald along with Ryan Kalish and Jason Repko.

Che-Hsuan Lin, Daniel Nava and Marlon Byrd will start for the Red Sox on Monday against Baltimore.
