David Ortiz Remains Hot at Plate, Red Sox Must Cool Off Streaking Prince FielderEditor’s note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days.

The Red Sox are streaking of late, going 13-5 over the past 18 games, and David Ortiz's production has been a leading factor in the team's recent success.

Ortiz is leading the Red Sox in all major offensive categories this season, with a .319 average, 11 home runs and 33 RBIs. The 36-year-old DH isn't the only one Boston has depended on during its recent stretch, though, as Triple-A Pawtucket callup Scott Podsednik has given the Sox a nice boost in his short stint with the club, going 7-for-15 with one homer over the six games he's played.

As for the visiting Tigers, Prince Fielder appears to be a man on a mission with a career-high .317 average to go along with eight home runs and 30 RBIs. Fielder and catcher Gerald Laird have provided the spark for Detroit as of late, but some other players will have to step up if the 23-26 Tigers expect to make a playoff push.
