How Should Bobby Valentine Decide Between Kevin Youkilis and Will Middlebrooks?Bobby Valentine is in a bit of a bind.

Kevin Youkilis has hit the comeback trail and after a strong debut in the minors on Wednesday, he appears to be inching closer to reclaiming his spot in the Red Sox lineup as the everyday third baseman.

At least, he would if Will Middlebrooks wasn’t currently occupying it to considerable success.

Since Middlebrooks was called up as an injury replacement for Youk, the 23-year-old has energized Red Sox Nation with his bat. Through his first 13 major league games, Middlebrooks has already driven in 14 runs and clubbed four home runs. Compare that to Youkilis’ two home runs and nine RBIs in 18 games this year, and you have yourself a compelling debate in the making.

The youngster is making a case that not only does he belong on the big league roster, but he could also belongs to start.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington, however, isn’t rushing into anything. He’s on record suggesting that Youkilis will be the starter when he returns from the disabled list, pointing out that Youk’s experience has earned him that right.

The hot streak that Middlebrooks is riding, though, makes it awfully difficult to sit down the rookie. How do you think Bobby V should approach the situation?

What should be a bigger fctor in Bobby Valentine’s decision of who to play at third base?
