Los Angeles Kings Sweep St. Louis Blues as Eighth Seed to Advance in NHL PlayoffsThere's a reason why teams put so much weight on just making the playoffs, whatever their seed.

The Los Angeles Kings showed why on Sunday, blasting past the St. Louis Blues one more time to finish off the series sweep. The Kings — the eighth seed in the Western Conference — now advance to the finals in the West.

In the East, New Jersey continued its success over Philadelphia.

LOS ANGELES — Dustin Brown scored two goals, Jonathan Quick made 23 saves, and the eighth-seeded Los Angeles Kings finished an improbable four-game sweep of the St. Louis Blues with a 3-1 victory Sunday, advancing to the conference finals for just the second time in club history. New Jersey Devils 4, Philadelphia Flyers 2

NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils are looking as good with a 40-year-old Martin Brodeur in goal as they did when he was a kid. Dainius Zubrus scored two goals, and the Devils helped Brodeur celebrate a major birthday, overcoming a two-goal deficit and pushing the Philadelphia Flyers to the brink of elimination with a 4-2 victory Sunday night in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal.
