Matt Light to Officially Announce Retirement During Ceremony at Gillette Stadium

Matt Light is ready to go out in style.

Light, the most successful left tackle in Patriots history, will announce his retirement Monday during a news conference at The Hall at Patriot Place. Patriots owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick will also attend the event.

The Patriots placed Light on the league's official retired list last week, but the team announced plans for the ceremony Friday. It will be similar to the news conferences that were held by Troy Brown and Tedy Bruschi, although each of those were conducted inside the Gillette Stadium media workroom.

The three-time Pro Bowler played in five Super Bowls during his 11-year career, and he started 173 games at left tackle. He was also a member of the Patriots' 50th anniversary team.

With Light out of the mix, the expectation is 2011 first-round pick Nate Solder will start at left tackle, with Sebastian Vollmer on the right side. Marcus Cannon, Robert Gallery and Matt Kopa will serve as backups as the Patriots push forward through their offseason workouts.

Light's announcement will begin at 10:30 a.m., and the Patriots will open the event to the public. Half of the ticket sales from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. will be donated to the Light Foundation
