Mike Moustakas Brings Hot Bat Into Series Against Red Sox, While Eric Hosmer's Struggles ContinueEditor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days.

At 9-18, the Kansas City Royals could be described as anything but hot. But despite the team's slow start, third baseman Mike Moustakas continues to be a bright spot.

Moustakas is KC's leading hitter, entering Monday's contest batting at a .305 clip. The 23-year-old is one of a number of talented young players on the Royals, although the team is still trying to put it all together on the field.

Moustakas' temperature as of Monday sits at 83, the highest temp on the Royals. Not far behind, however, is Alex Gordon, whose temperature is at 82.

Eric Hosmer, widely regarded the Royals' cornerstone, has struggled early on this season, hitting at .185 through 27 games.

For the Red Sox, meanwhile, Dustin Pedroia (80) carries the highest temperature into Monday's game. That's mostly a result of Pedroia's seven-game hitting streak, which he extended with a 1-for-5 effort on Sunday.
