Stan Van Gundy’s Firing Reportedly Not Enough to Make Dwight Howard Want to Stay in Orlando

Stan Van Gundy's gone, so Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic can live happily ever after, right?

Not so fast.

A report from SheridanHoops.com, a blog operated by former ESPN basketball analyst Chris Sheridan, indicates that Howard still "desperately" wants out of Orlando.

In fact, Howard reportedly "wants out of Orlando more than he ever did before in order to start a new chapter of his career."

Whether Howard eventually gets his wish and is able to start a new chapter in his career remains to be seen, but for Van Gundy and former Magic GM Otis Smith, it's a certainty, as both parted ways with the team on Monday.

Sheridan reports that the Brooklyn Nets are considered the front-runner for Howard's services, but that a source indicated that "it is not going to be a one-horse race." The Mavericks, Knicks and, to a lesser degree, Clippers and Lakers are reportedly among the teams that could appeal to the star center.

Magic team executives are expected to meet with Howard soon, according to Sheridan's report, and if he tells them that he wants out, they are expected to try to accomodate him. They would, of course, then deal him to the highest bidder.

Trade rumors have swirled around Howard for quite some time. And although the big man may have gotten his wish Monday with the Van Gundy firing, it might not be enough to keep him in the Sunshine State.

The soap opera continues.
