News of Carl Beane‘s death has hit many fans hard, and members of Red Sox Nation far and wide have come forward to pay their respects to the Red Sox’ PA announcer.
Some former team members and coworkers of Beane’s who currently work at ESPN spoke out on Wednesday with their thoughts on his life, all with nice things to say about the voice of Fenway Park.
“It’s sad to hear,” former Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. “He loved his job. He was so proud to have that job.”
“He always had a smile on his face and he was one of those people you looked forward to seeing at the ballpark everyday,” former announcer Sean McDonough recalled. “He was the ‘Voice of Fenway Park.’ Carl had big shoes to fill coming in after Sherm Feller and I think he did it.”
Curt Schilling also chimed in, tweeting, “Heaven is blessed today,” while passing along his condolences.
Beane was an iconic part of Fenway Park, and his voice will be sorely missed. Listen as he announces the starting lineups before a recent game in the video below.
