BOSTON — Will Middlebrooks was a late scratch on Saturday.

The Red Sox announced the third baseman, who was called up on Wednesday from Pawtucket, was battling tightness in his left hamstring. He was slated to bat eighth in the lineup, but was replaced by Nick Punto.

Middlebrooks, who was promoted to the Red Sox after the team placed Kevin Youkilis on the 15-day disabled list, said he expects to return to the lineup on Sunday. In two games, he's batting .333 with three hits, two doubles and one steal.
