Will Rays Retaliate This Weekend for Friday Night's Brawl With Red Sox?In the words of Ron Burgundy, “That escalated quickly.”

One moment on Friday night, the Rays were cruising comfortably to a 7-4 win over the Red Sox.

The next, benches were clearing and coaches were inserting themselves into the middle of a brawl that left both teams sniping back and forth in the aftermath of it all.

On Saturday, the two adversaries will meet again in what has the potential to be a very tense affair. We could see things quickly reach a boiling point yet again.

Both teams will likely be on a short leash from the umpires, so the Red Sox and Rays will have to decide whether they wish to take further action and face the consequences.

The Rays may feel that Franklin Morales‘ plunking of Luke Scott was unprovoked and that they deserve some measure of revenge for the way the Red Sox reacted during the hubbub. On the other hand, the Red Sox could think that the Rays started things in the first place by throwing at Dustin Pedroia in the sixth inning.

While it’s going to be interesting to see how the two teams approach the rest of the series, there’s no guarantee that a peaceful weekend means an end to hostilities. After Sunday, the Rays and Red Sox are scheduled to meet nine more times this season.

How will the Red Sox and Rays follow up Friday night's brawl?
