Would You Rather Dustin Pedroia Went on the Disabled List or Played at Less Than 100 Percent?Dustin Pedroia could be at a bit of a crossroads right now.

On the one hand, he's a hard-nosed competitor who will do anything to win. On the other — literally — he has a torn adductor muscle in his right thumb. That injury could limit his effectiveness and might even be enough of a problem to force him onto the disabled list.

Problem is, Pedroia doesn't want that. The Red Sox second baseman has declared that he wants to play with a brace on his thumb when the swelling resides, if he can.

"I've played with injuries before," Pedroia said. "It's just a matter of me being able to swing with a brace on it or something."

The self-proclaimed quick healer wants to play, obviously, but Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington recognizes that the team has to make sure not to sacrifice future health to keep Pedey in the lineup for now. At the same time, Dustin Pedroia playing at less than 100 percent may still be better than a lot of other players around the league — or anyone the Sox may have to step in.

If Pedroia is shelved for a couple of weeks, Bobby Valentine would have a couple of different options on the table. Nick Punto has been filling in at second base for the last few games, but the team could also consider calling up shortstop Julio Iglesias from the minors and give him a try at second.

It could be worth it for Pedroia to play through pain if he doesn't risk any further injury. At the same time, it might not be a bad thing if he took his time getting healthy to make sure that he will be ready for a stretch run. What would you rather he do?

Which would you rather Dustin Pedroia do?
