Brian Waters Only Patriots Player Not in Attendance for Minicamp Due to 'Personal Reason'The Patriots opened a three-day minicamp on Tuesday afternoon in Foxboro, and everyone was present and accounted for except for offensive lineman Brian Waters.

The veteran guard was the only no-show at Gillette Stadium, and head coach Bill Belichick addressed the veteran's absence when he met with the media on Tuesday.

Belichick confirmed Waters' absence, but offered few details as to why the 35-year-old wasn't there.

"All of the players are here except for Brian Waters, he's excused for personal reason, and of course we have some players out there who are not participating who are in various stages of rehab, and we'll evaluate them on a day by day basis," Belichick told reporters on Tuesday. "That's the update here; another day at the office."

Waters has one year left on his contract, and there has been some discussion about whether or not the veteran will retire. He did not attend OTAs last month.

Belichick also touched quickly on the release of wide receiver Chad Ochocinco

"Well, I don't know. The bottom line is that's in the past; we're focused on today and trying to go out there and think about when we step on the field. I haven't thought of that too much," he said.

Ochocinco was released last week after one unsuccessful season with the Patriots. He signed with the Miami Dolphins on Monday.
