As of right now, David Ortiz is the only player on the roster that would be voted in, but there's still plenty of time for that to change.
While many players on the Red Sox got off to slow starts — along with the team – Ortiz did not. Big Papi is currently the top 10 in the majors in home runs, runs batted in, OPS and slugging.
While Ortiz appears a lock for the Midsummer Classic, Josh Beckett could find himself on the bubble of an invitation as well. After a rough patch surrounding his off days, he's found his footing and dominated the Orioles on Wednesday night despite being handed a loss. While his win-loss record may not reflect the dominance he's shown at times, Beckett could get a call to Kauffman Stadium on behalf of the American League.
Beckett's batterymate, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, may very well be en route to his first All-Star nod, too. Salty leads the league's catchers in home runs, and with many of them coming in the clutch, he's also emerging as a late-inning weapon for the Sox. It probably doesn't hurt that he has the likes of Adrian Gonzalez campaigning for him, either.
Gonzalez, Dustin Pedroia and a couple of relievers might also get some consideration — Will Middlebrooks, even. But with each team needed at least one player representing them at the game, space runs out quickly.
