Jarrod Saltalamacchia Erupts, Looks to Pick Up Where He Left Off as Red Sox Face OriolesEditor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days.

It was a taut affair at Fenway Park on Tuesday night, with the Orioles squeaking out an 8-6 win over the Red Sox in 10 innings. Both lineups are hitting relatively well as of late, but the Sox are looking to hit just a little bit better Wednesday night.

Of course, Boston wouldn't have gotten to the 10th inning without the late-game heroics of Jarrod Saltalamacchia. His two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth tied the game, and his 3-for-4, two-RBI night raised his average over the past seven days to .313 with two homers and five RBIs.

Salty is currently the hottest hitter on the team, but he's followed closely by both Scott Podsednik and Daniel Nava. Nava in particular has continued to surprise, hitting safely in seven of his last eight games and collecting 11 hits in that span.

The other dugout isn't lacking for hot hitters, either. Mark Reynolds is enjoying the lowest strikeout rate of his career and currently reaping the rewards, picking up two consecutive multihit games heading into Wednesday night's action. Matt Wieters has also been spraying the ball around, sporting a .400 average over the past seven days.
