Ken Griffey Jr., Alex Rodriguez Headline Top 10 First Overall Picks in MLB Draft History (Photos)The Astros are hoping to bring their franchise back to relevance.

After finishing with the worst record in baseball last season, Houston was awarded the first pick in the 2012 MLB draft, which starts on Monday.

This year, Stanford pitcher Mark Appel, Florida catcher Mike Zunino, San Francisco pitcher Kyle Zimmer, LSU pitcher Kevin Gausman and Georgia high schooler outfielder Byron Buxton are all in the mix for the No. 1 spot.

Houston’s future hinges on the first selection, a player that could alter the course of the organization for years to come. If they get the right player, they could be well on their way to rebuilding and turning the franchise around. If not, well, then they may get another chance at picking first overall.
