Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez make up the best tight end tandem in the NFL. On Thursday, that unit got even better as the Patriots signed veteran Bo Scaife.

The 6-foot-3 inch, 249-pounder has played in 90 career NFL games since being drafted by the Titans in the sixth round of the 2005 draft out of Texas. Scaife has recorded 251 career receptions for 2,383 yards and 12 touchdowns with both the Titans and the Bengals, who he played for last season.

The Pats also announced that they have released defensive lineman Markell Carter, tight end Nick Melillo and offensive lineman Jon Opperud.
