Red Sox Continue to Focus on Pitching With 14 Picks on Day 2 of 2012 MLB DraftThe Boston Red Sox continued to sift through available prospects on Tuesday, selecting 14 players on Day 2 of the 2012 MLB Draft in rounds 2-15.

So far, the Red Sox have focused their attention on the pitching staff, taking 11 pitchers in their first 17 picks.

Right-handed pitcher Jamie Callahan was the first Red Sox pick of the day, coming off the board in the second round, No. 87 overall. Callahan was the 2012 Gatorade South Carolina Baseball Player of the Year thanks to his 0.89 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 50 innings of work this season.

In the third round, Boston selected University of Florida reliever Austin Maddox. An effective two-way player for the Gators, Maddox struck out 55 batters in 30 appearances this season.

The Sox also selected a familiar name Tuesday, adding J.T. Watkins, son of Red Sox scout Danny Watkins, in the tenth round.

Of the Sox' 17 draft picks, five have come from high school and 12 have been college players.

Day 3 of the First-Year Player Draft will feature rounds 16-40 and begin at noon on Wednesday.
