Red Sox Tap Right-Handed Flamethrower Pat Light With 37th Overall Pick Out of Monmouth UniversityThe Red Sox continued to stack up on pitchers, tapping right-hander Pat Light with the 37th overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft.

Light is 6-foot-6, 200-pound flamethrower from Monmouth University. As a junior, the hurler –– who projected to be a first-round pick –– finished with an 8-3 record with 102 strikeouts and a 2.40 ERA.

He displayed pinpoint command during the season, walking just 16 batters through 101 1/3 innings for Monmouth and also possesses a fastball that could hit triple digits.

At Christian Brothers Academy in New Jersey, Light was a proven winner, tallying a perfect 20-0 record for his high school career. Despite the spotless stat, he slipped to the 28th round in the 2009 Draft, where the Twins scooped him up. But he ultimately opted to go to college to continue his development.

He's turned heads ever since. In early May, he was named to the Golden Spikes Award watch list, given to the best collegiate baseball player. Past recipients of the award include Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg and San Francisco ace Tim Lincecum.
