Vladimir Guerrero Released From Minor League Contract With Blue Jays Upon His RequestVladimir Guerrero's major league comeback attempt could soon happen elsewhere, as the Blue Jays announced that they have released the 37-year-old slugger.

Conflicting reports regarding Guerrero's future surfaced on Tuesday, with Blue Jays broadcaster Mike Wilner tweeting that Guerrero had decided to give up his comeback bid. Guerrero's agent refuted the report, telling FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal that "nothing is further from the truth." Instead, Guerrero, who had been with the Blue Jays' Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, gave the team an ultimatum, according to ESPN.com's Enrique Rojas. The veteran reportedly left the club's minor league affiliate, forcing the Blue Jays to decide whether they wanted to promote him or not.

The Blue Jays have since issued the following tweet.

He experienced a bit of a drop-off in Baltimore last year, but was an All-Star as recently as 2010 as a member of the Rangers.

Guerrero, a nine time All-Star and former American League MVP, hit .313 (15-for-48) with four home runs and 10 RBIs in 11 games split between Single-A and Triple-A this season.
