Will Major League Baseball Ever Use Robot Umpires? The Red Sox have been very frustrated with the way things have gone lately, and in recent days, they seem to be taking out much of that frustration on the umpires.

Before Monday's loss to the Marlins, Bobby Valentine was still miffed about a call from Sunday's game against the Nationals. So, he suggested that baseball take a hard look at incorporating technology into their officiating procedures.

"The umpires are very well trained, and I think they're very good at what they do," Valentine told reporters in Miami. "I think it's almost impossible to do what they do. So why do we ask them to do the impossible?"

The Red Sox continued to gripe about the umpiring after Monday's game as well, with Kevin Youkilis barking at home plate umpire Ron Kulpa as the two headed off the field.

With the Red Sox in the midst of a four-game losing streak, it's easy to be frustrated, but Bobby V does bring up a good point. As technology gets better, there will be more and more opportunities for baseball to rely on it to ensure that they get the call right. Of course, purists will likely clamor for some continued "human element" in the way of umpiring.
