Rawlings, who has the naming rights to the Rawlings Gold Glove award, is suing glove manufacturer Wilson for giving the Reds second baseman a glove painted gold to play with.
It has "metallic gold-colored webbing, stitching and lettering," according to the lawsuit obtained by Deadspin, which Rawlings is claiming constitutes copyright infringement. Phillips, however, is not named in the suit.
Rawlings is suing for Wilson to stop promoting Phillips' glove, but it is also asking the glove company to cease production of "any other baseball glove featuring gold webbing, gold-colored fabrics or leather, gold lettering, gold stitching, any other metallic gold-colored material."
There always seems to be debate about who should win Gold Gloves. Now we may have a legal ruling over who gets to wear them.
