David Platt Wows Manchester City Pupils With Scissor-Kick Goal (Video)

Eat your heart out, Paul Scholes. David Platt showed that Scholes isn’t the only old English soccer player that still has skills.

The Manchester City assistant manager scored a goal in practice that left his team awestruck.

Reigning Premier League champion City is in Malaysia for the last leg of its presesaon tour, and Platt was participating in a small-sided game during one of the practice sessions.

After an unidentified player lofted a cross into the penalty area, Platt jumped, twisted his body and met the delivery with perfect timing. England international goalkeeper Joe Hart wouldn’t have been able to stop it had he been in goal at the time.

The 46-year-old Platt didn’t even celebrate the goal. He left that up to top marksman Sergio Aguero and his friends on the sidelines. It makes sense, as he’s scored goals of that quality on bigger stages than an empty stadium in the Far East. At the 1990 FIFA World Cup, Platt sent England to the quarterfinal by scoring a stunning volley in the 120th minute. The goal broke Belgian hearts, but Platt gained international fame and a lucrative move to Italian soccer.

There’s no word on whether the former box-to-box midfielder intends on pulling a Scholes and coming out of retirement. He probably won’t, but the just-retired Scholes was passing rings around Manchester United’s youngsters at this time last year.
