Report: Reggie Jackson Told by Yankees to Stay Away From Team in Wake of Controversial CommentsReggie Jackson may have been the straw that stirs the drink, but the Yankees are now asking their former slugger to stay away from their current brew of a team.

Jackson, who serves as a special advisor to New York, has been "benched" by the Yankees and told to stay away from the team for the immediate future, according to ESPN's Buster Olney. The move comes in response to the slugger's controversial comments earlier this month, when Jackson insulted Alex Rodriguez while questioning the Hall of Fame credentials of players like Kirby Puckett and Jim Rice in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

While Rice didn't concern himself much with the comments, Peter Gammons suggested on a recent episode of NESN's Red Sox First Pitch that the Yankees brass was upset about the episode. Olney, it seems, can confirm that feeling.

"Reggie Jackson was benched by the Yankees because of his disparaging comments about Alex Rodriguez and others," Olney reports. "He has effectively been placed in the penalty box."

Jackson's return has not been ruled out, Olney reports, but his job may very well be in jeopardy in the wake of all this.
