Titans wide receiver O.J. Murdock has died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, Tampa police told The Tampa Tribune.

Murdock was reportedly discovered in his car in front of Middleton High School in Tampa, where the 25-year-old had been a standout football player and sprinter before graduating in 2006. Murdock was transported to Tampa General Hospital and died at 10:43 a.m., according to police.

The receiver joined the Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2011 and spent all of last season on injured reserve. He had yet to play in a game with Tennessee, but had a solid season at Division II Fort Hays State. He ended up there after he was dismissed from the football team at the University of South Carolina upon being charged with grand theft.

Murdock had not yet reported to Titans training camp this season for personal reasons.
