San Diego's Fourth of July celebration didn't quite go as planned. Neither has the San Diego Padres' season.
An annual fireworks display in the city malfunctioned on Wednesday, leading to a 15-second barrage prior to what was supposed to be an 18-minute performance, according to the Los Angeles Times.
About five minutes before the Port of San Diego's Big Bay Boom — a show advertised as one of the largest fireworks displays in the nation — was to begin at 9 p.m., a giant onslaught of fireworks appeared. It was bright and unique, but it was all there was to offer. A glitch reportedly caused all of the fireworks to ignite at once.
The 15-second disappointment is sort of on par with what we've come to expect out of the San Diego Padres in recent years. They seemed to explode in 2010, going 90-72 while staying in the NL West hunt. But just like that, the success was over. Now, two years later, the Pads are back to being doormats, battling with the Rockies for last place in the NL West.
The only difference is that the city is probably much more upset about the botched fireworks presentation.
