NASCAR has the tendency to put people to sleep. Some never wake up.

When that's the case, it's probably best that the deceased be hauled away in a careful manner. Then again, you could just keep them dressed, cleaned and around to watch more races.

Linda Chase of Jackson, Mich., continued to live and watch NASCAR races with her dead husband, Charles Zigler, for approximately 18 months until authorities found Zigler's body on Friday, according to the Jackson Citizen Patriot.

"It's not that I'm heartless," Chase reportedly said while wiping away tears. "It's just that after so many bad things happen to you, I don't know."

Chase also admitted to cashing Zigler's benefit checks, something she thinks could lead to her going to prison, although she asked police if there's some way she can pay back the checks.

What Chase did is rather bizarre, but the 72-year-old reportedly said that her husband is the only man that has ever been nice to her, and that several people in her life have died, including some while she held their hands.

Chase reportedly regrets the decision to keep her husband's body around, and she — like everyone else — doesn't fully understand why she did it.

"I know this is horrible, but after awhile, you get, I don't know what you call it, I don't know," Chase reportedly said before starting to tear up.

So yes, it's a strange story. But it's also a very, very sad story.
