Bobby Valentine Wishes Red Sox 'Got That Loss Back' From Bartolo Colon's Outing Against ThemBOSTON — Once a member of the Red Sox, Bartolo Colon
stifled his former club on July 3. When he took the mound for the Athletics back then, he
tossed six innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run in the 3-2
victory.

Turns out, the win was tainted. On Wednesday, Major
League Baseball suspended Colon for 50 games after he reportedly tested
positive for testosterone
and violated Major League Baseball's drug policy.

And the announcement certainly made Red Sox manager Bobby
Valentine
reflect on the loss from July.

"I just wish we got that loss back that he got
against us," Valentine said. "I don't know how this system works and
I don't know what those two players [Colon and Melky Cabrera] were doing to get
cracked down on."

Valentine has managed in the 80s and 90s, when performance-enhancing drug use was reaching its peak in baseball clubhouses.
And he believes it's impossible to monitor all the ongoing shenanigans on the
roster.

"I don't think we can be responsible for what guys
are doing personally," Valentine said. "It's tough. I think it's very
tough. We try to get people to know the difference between right and wrong. We
try to surround ourselves with people who do that. After that, I think it's
difficult to try to police it."

Earlier this season, former Red Sox outfielder Marlon
Byrd
was busted for PEDs as well. Shortly after Byrd was released, Valentine
insisted that he had no clue about the outfielder's behavior.
