Clay Buchholz Makes History Striking Out the Side on Nine Pitches Against Baltimore (Video)

The sixth inning of Thursday’s game was a pivotal one for Clay Buchholz.

The Sox had just scored three runs to grab a 6-3 lead, but the Orioles had the heart of their order due up in the bottom of the frame. Buchholz couldn’t afford to give any momentum back to Baltimore, and he needed to come up big. He did just that, in historic fashion.

Buchholz struck out the side on nine pitches, making it only the 47th time the feat has been accomplished in major league history. To put that into some context, there have been 235 no-hitters thrown in the modern era.
