BOSTON — The Red Sox aren't taking any chances with Jacoby Ellsbury.
After the outfielder missed three months with a subluxed shoulder, Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine scratched Ellsbury from Saturday's lineup upon learning about some discomfort in his leg.
"It's a leg issue," Valentine said. "But it's not an issue. But it could become an issue. Now that he's not playing, it's an issue."
Valentine was very vague when asked to elaborate on Ellsbury's situation. Although Ellsbury wanted to fight through it, Valentine elected to start Ryan Kalish in his place.
"I'm just being safe with Jacoby," Valentine said. "He has a very little situation that he wanted to play through. With the day game tomorrow, I vetoed it. Ryan is healthy, ready to go."
Through 27 games, Ellsbury has clubbed one home run and six RBIs while hitting .259.
