Jeff Green would have given just about anything to be on the court last season. Since that was not going to happen, with the lockout and the aortic aneurysm that ended his season before it began, Green shifted his focus to academics.
Green used his time away from the game as an opportunity to finish his degree five years after his final game at Georgetown, the 25-year-old forward told Celtics Blog in an interview. The achievement may not have meant much from a basketball standpoint, but receiving his diploma May 8 was a nice consolation prize for not being able to play with the Celtics.
"I went to school during the entire lockout, and I only had two classes left when the lockout ended," Green told Josh Zavadil. "It meant a lot. That's something I've been doing the past four years. To finally be done and have a Georgetown degree was big-time. I had committed myself to doing it. Three of my best friends graduated a year after I left. In those pictures that you always have with your friends, I would always stand out, because I didn't have a cap and gown on. That was something that really motivated me and something I'm really happy I could finally accomplish."
Green graduated with a major in English and a minor in theology, according to The Washington Post. In Green and rookie Kris Joseph, who graduated May 13 from Syracuse with a degree in child and family studies, the Celtics have two members of the Class of 2012.
