Nick Punto Always Envisioned Winning World Series in Boston, Says 'That's the Part That Stinks' About TradeAdrian Gonzalez
, Josh Beckett and Nick Punto were all smiles as they boarded a flight to Los Angeles in the wake of the Red Sox' blockbuster trade with the Dodgers. But at least a little part of Punto was disappointed.

Punto is seen as a throw-in in the megadeal that alleviated the Sox of over $250 million in cumbersome contracts, but the veteran infielder admits he had big things on his mind when he first arrived in Boston last offseason.

"I always envisioned playing in Boston and winning a world championship in Boston," Punto told CSNNE.com's Sean McAdam. "That's the part that stinks — you get to play there for a year, not even a year, and it just didn't work out."

Punto's tenure in Beantown will likely be forgotten before long — if it hasn't already been. The utilityman hit just .200 (25-for-125) with a home run, 10 RBIs and a .301 on-base percentage with the Sox, leading to plenty of indifference when hearing he was part of the monstrous trade. For Punto, however, the overriding emotion was mostly shock, as he reportedly said Monday that he was "caught off guard" by being attached to the deal.

"It was just one of those years where it didn't work out," Punto reportedly said. "We had the talent to do it, but we just didn't perform — which is tough. That's the city you want to win a world championship in. I heard that from many people."

Punto can at least take solace in the fact that winning a championship anywhere is great, and his chances of accomplishing that goal once again this season increased greatly with his trade out West.
