“I haven’t seen the floater pitch since Scuffy McGee.”

Randy Wolf‘s curveball to Brandon Phillips on Wednesday came close to floater-pitch territory, though. Topping out at 49-mph, the pitch looked to be a hybrid of the floater, the Eephus, a high arc slow-pitch softball offering and the slo-mo ball from the Backyard Baseball computer games.

Phillips was so surprised at the lack of velocity that he didn’t even bat an eyelash. Instead, he patiently waited the five to 10 minutes it took for the pitch to land outside.
