Report: Brian Scalabrine in Line to Join Bulls Coaching StaffThere was some question as to whether Brian Scalabrine would pick up a basketball as a player or pick up a microphone as an analyst this season. It looks like he'll do neither and instead opt for a clipboard.

Scalabrine is in line to join Tom Thibodeau's Bulls coaching staff, according to CSNChicago.com.

Former Bulls assistant coach Rick Brunson took a position with the Bobcats, which created an opening for Scalabrine. Former Magic assistant Steve Clifford was reportedly considered for the job, but he opted to join Dwight Howard — whom he coached in Orlando — out in Los Angeles. That reportedly makes Scalabrine the front-runner for the gig.

Scalabrine previously expressed a desire to keep playing, but there's a chance he didn't generate much interest. The 34-year-old played in just 46 games over the last two seasons with the Bulls, averaging 1.1 points in less than 5 minutes per contest.

Even while his playing career was in jeopardy, though, Scalabrine managed to stay around the game as an analyst for the Celtics, and his basketball IQ should be an asset to Thibodeau's staff.
