Orioles pitching prospect Dylan Bundy lit up the radar gun in the minors, but isn’t expected to have a chance at testing himself in the big leagues this year.

Bundy, who earned himself a reputation while dominating the minor leagues, will be sent to the team’s instructional league team in September, according to Baltimore manager Buck Showalter. That should put an end to speculation that the O’s were considering calling the 19-year-old up to the bigs.

The team’s first-round pick in 2011, Bundy turned heads while not allowing an earned run in his time in Low-A ball. However, his time in the High-A and Double-A has not gone quite as dominantly. Showalter pointed to Bundy’s high walk totals (eight in 16 2/3 innings) as a reason for the team’s caution, but remained high on the youngster’s promise.

“I think the progression of his development has been great,” Showalter said. “Couldn’t ask for a better progression.”

The instructional season starts for Baltimore on Sept. 12.
