Football is likely the furthest thing from Tyrann Mathieu's mind right now.
Mathieu, who was a Heisman Trophy finalist last season, was kicked off the LSU football team recently, and he has now made some key decisions regarding his future.
Mathieu and his family decided that the standout cornerback will remain at a drug rehab center in Houston for the near future, rather than return to classes at LSU or any other college, according to FOX 8 in New Orleans.
This news comes after there had been plenty of speculation as to whether Mathieu, known to many college football fans as "Honey Badger," would transfer to another school in order to play football this fall. There had also been reports that Mathieu would sit out the season, remain enrolled in classes at LSU, then hope to return to the gridiron with the Tigers in 2013.
According to FOX 8, however, Mathieu and his father agree that until Tyrann conquers his demons, he won't be successful at his future endeavors. They also reportedly agree that football will take care of itself down the road, but that health is the most important thing at this point.
Mathieu is reportedly getting some help from someone who has been in a similar situation before. Former NBA star John Lucas, who had a solid career before cocaine and alcohol addiction troubled him, has taken Mathieu under his wing, mentoring him daily.
Lucas has dedicated himself to helping athletes facing the problems he once faced, and he reportedly feels as though Mathieu made a "mature" decision.
