Brian Westbrook is one of the best running backs in Philadelphia Eagles history, so it's only fitting he returns to Philly to call it a career.
The team announced Tuesday that Westbrook will retire as a member of the Eagles on Wednesday morning.
"Thank you Philadelphia for all of the great memories and support throughout the years!! The Best Fans in The WORLD!!!" Westbrook tweeted Tuesday morning.
The team also announced that it will hold a halftime ceremony during the Dec. 23 game against the Washington Redskins to honor Westbrook.
"I will always remember Brian for the electrifying, game-changing plays he made during his great career in Philadelphia," Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie said in a release, according to Philly.com. "He was one of those players you knew could score from anywhere on the field and one of the most exciting players I have ever watched. He was a great runner, receiver and returner and was certainly a fan favorite."
Westbrook, who will turn 33 on Sunday, spent eight years with the Eagles. The All-Pro rushed for almost 6,000 yards over those seasons and added 37 touchdowns. He was also a tremendous receiving threat out of the backfield, scoring 29 receiving touchdowns.
The Washington, D.C., native also played his college ball in the Philadelphia area at Villanova.
