Sergio Ramos treated Philadelphia Eagles fans to one of those rare sports crossover moments that answer the question “what if?”
The Real Madrid and Spain defender kicked a few field goals (with an American football) at Lincoln Financial Field, and it turns out he has a pretty good leg.
A holder put a ball on the 43-yard line, while Ramos ran up and blasted it through the uprights. Had it taken place on any given Sunday in the fall, the announcer would have reminded American viewers “that it would have been good from [fill in the blank] yards further than the point from which he kicked it.”
Real Madrid was in Philadelphia wrapping up its American tour. Ramos’ heroics took place on Thursday night, two nights ahead of the exhibition game between Real and Celtic FC. Promoters had a few Madrid stars kicking field goals at halftime of the Eagles-Steelers game to drum up interest and sell a few tickets.
Ramos continued to display his overall athletic excellence in Philadelphia. Earlier on the tour, he trounced Kaka in a 50-meter swimming race, showing his veteran teammate no mercy. How he would fare in a tie-game situation wearing a helmet and pads with the game on the line remains to be seen.
