Abby Wambach Scores Luckiest Goal of Glittering International Soccer Career (Video)Abby Wambach has scored 146 goals for the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team, but the one she scored on Wednesday must have been the luckiest of the bunch.

The U.S. striker benefited from a wicked deflection and unreal backspin to score what stood as the game-winner against Australia.

With the score tied 2-2 early in the second half, Alex Morgan took a left-footed shot on goal from the top of the penalty area. It was hit so hard that Wambach was unable to move her foot out of the way before it reached her. Fortunately, the ball knew Wambach was a natural goal scorer, so it spun high into the air and headed for goal upon hitting the ground.

Australia goalkeeper Brianna Davey was powerless to stop it, as she had already dived to her left in order to stop Morgan's shot. She and other teammates watched as the U.S. took a 3-2 lead.

The Americans added three more goals to cruise to a 6-2 victory. It was the final game for U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage, who leaves the U.S. for her native Sweden where she will coach its national team.

U.S. Soccer hasn't named Sundhage's successor, but whoever it is will depend on the striker with the golden touch for leadership and timely goals. Wambach trails Mia Hamm by 12 goals on the national team's all-time leading scorer's list. It could be a matter of time before Wambach passes her legendary predecessor — especially if she keeps drinking "Abby's Urbock" for good luck.
