Derrick Rose Bursts Into Tears at Thought of Fan Support Throughout ACL Rehab (Video)

Imagine you grew up in one of the most violent sections of Boston, avoided adversity for most of your childhood, became a standout basketball player and on draft day had your dream fulfilled when you were selected by the Celtics.

Now imagine, a few years later, after winning an NBA Most Valuable Player award and leading your team to the conference finals, a potentially devastating knee injury sent you to the sideline in the middle of the playoffs. Throughout your rehabilitation, the support from your fans — not just faceless people wearing jerseys and hats, but the fellow members of your community — was overwhelming.

You would get choked up, too.

Derrick Rose has experienced just that, except his home city is Chicago and the team he grew up hoping to play for is the Bulls. Chicago is mired in a teachers strike that has lasted all week, yet Rose was overwhelmed that residents were still supportive of his progress. When a video of his rehab was played Thursday, the emotion welled up and Rose broke down in tears.
