Jim Brown Says 'Ordinary' Comments Were Meant to Motivate Trent RichardsonWhen it comes to the Cleveland Browns, anything Jim Brown says is bound to get blown out of proportion. But don’t think he doesn’t know that.

The Hall of Fame running back made comments back in April about how current Browns ball carrier Trent Richardson was “ordinary” in terms of his size, speed, moves and overall ability. After Richardson’s impressive play in Week 2, Brown has changed his tone a bit.

Brown spoke Friday when he appeared at an alumni golf outing and said that he made those original comments to motivate the Browns’ first-round pick.

“Why wouldn’t you love to see a running back make two, three, four or
five moves and shed those tacklers?” Brown told Tom Reed of the Plain Dealer. “Because ultimately a
running back has to get rid of tacklers without his blockers being a
part of it. So I was happy to see him show that kind of talent.”

Richardson carried the ball 19 times for 109 yards against the Bengals to go with a spectacular 23-yard touchdown catch that was the subject of Brown’s glowing comments.
