Nets Owner Mikhail Prokhorov Says He Expects Brooklyn to Win Title Within Three YearsMikhail Prokhorov
cut the ribbon to open the new home of the Brooklyn Nets, the Barclays Center, on Friday.

Within minutes, Prokhorov also told reporters that he expects his team to start winning soon — and big.

"We are on the right way, and I'm expecting our championship within three years," he said.

Prokhorov bought the former New Jersey Nets in 2009 and has since put a lot of work into building a winning team and producing a profitable organization. He moved the team to Brooklyn this offseason.

Brooklyn didn't land the NBA's top trade piece, Dwight Howard, this offseason, but the team was able to re-sign elite point guard Deron Williams and bring in veteran scorer Joe Johnson. The Nets could now have a formidable starting five of Williams and Johnson in the backcourt, Gerald Wallace on the wing, and Kris Humphries and Brook Lopez in the post. Second-year man MarShon Brooks will provide offense off of the bench, and both Reggie Evans and Andray Blatche are solid backups for Humphries and Lopez.

With a talented core and some added depth, the Nets could be a real contender in the Eastern Conference, as they match up well against teams like the Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls.

Whether they have enough to challenge the Miami Heat or Los Angeles
Lakers is another question, but Prokhorov didn't say they would win the
title this season.

Brooklyn fans will just have to wait and see what happens three years from now.
