Gene Lamont Confident Red Sox' Season Wouldn't Have Been 'as Chaotic' With Him as ManagerGene Lamont
is just four wins away from capturing a World Series title with the Tigers, but it's possible he'd still rather be managing the Red Sox.

Lamont, who is currently serving as the Tigers' third base coach, spoke with the Boston Herald's Scott Lauber prior to Game 4 of the ALCS, and it's clear that managing is something that's still on his mind.

"If I had to pick," Lamont reportedly said, "I'd still like to have the [Red Sox managerial] job."

In fact, Lamont is confident that things may have gone a bit more smoothly had he been selected for the gig instead of Bobby Valentine, who has since been fired.

"I don't know what the record would've been," Lamont said, "but I'm positive it wouldn't have been as chaotic."

The Red Sox, of course, finished 69-93, 26 games behind the AL East-winning Yankees. While injuries played a significant role, overall ineffectiveness is what ultimately did Boston in. Throughout it all, there were unavoidable reports of clubhouse turmoil, which — true or not — Lamont is confident wouldn't have been the case on his watch.

"I don't know what went on with the players," Lamont reportedly said. "If I would've been there, I don't think there would've been that much turmoil."

Lamont said he has not been contacted about the Red Sox' current managerial opening.
