Major League Baseball apologized to the Houston Astros on Tuesday, but their apology and explanation were a little bit puzzling.
The Astros' new look was leaked in a couple of different places over the weekend, including a sporting goods store and the league's website.
In fact, the new logo was on the Astros' team website as late as Tuesday morning. Yahoo! Sports' baseball blog, Big League Stew, was able to get a screen grab of a player page. As you can see in the photo below, the new look features the new logo, as well as the new cap Photoshopped on a player's head.
MLB scrambled to correct the mistake, and the Astros' site is now back to the "current" colors and logos.
Here's the thing. MLB issued an apology Tuesday and even went as far as to blame Hurricane Sandy for part of the mishap. The league tweeted out the "explanation."

It's kind of confusing, to say the least. There must have been some sort of work that needed to be done in advance of the official logo unveiling, which is set to happen Friday. For whatever reason, that needed to be done early in the week, even with the unveiling a few days away.
About an hour after the explanation, the league also issued an apology via Twitter.

You have to wonder what's more embarrassing for the league and the club, though — leaking the logos like they did, or being a little late in updating the website. The former is what happened, of course, and it doesn't look great for the league.
